Makhachev relied heavily on his grappling during the opening stages of the fight, securing takedowns and controlling Garry against the cage. The champion's pressure limited Garry's opportunities to establish his striking, although the challenger remained competitive and repeatedly worked his way back to his feet.
The biggest moment of the second round came when Makhachev landed a head kick that briefly dropped Garry. Makhachev immediately followed the knockdown with another takedown and controlled the action on the ground, forcing Garry to defend while looking for an opportunity to escape.
Garry responded strongly in the third round, using kicks to the body and legs while becoming more effective at defending Makhachev's takedown attempts. Garry came up short in his first UFC title challenge, but his ability to recover from the second-round knockdown and make the championship fight increasingly competitive provided a strong showing against one of the sport's most accomplished fighters. He remained respectful toward Makhachev after the bout while making clear that he believes he has plenty of time to continue developing his career.
Mackenzie Dern also successfully defended her championship in the co-main event, defeating Gillian Robertson by unanimous decision. The judges scored the women's strawweight title fight 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47, giving Dern the first successful defense of the belt she won last year.
Jalin Turner delivered one of the quickest finishes of the night, stopping Kauê Fernandes just 39 seconds into the opening round. Turner caught Fernandes during a spinning attack and followed up with punches until the referee intervened, earning a first-round knockout victory.
Dustin Stoltzfus produced another major result by defeating Mansur Abdul-Malik via rear-naked choke at 4:25 of the second round. Stoltzfus survived a competitive fight before finding an opening with his strikes and eventually taking Abdul-Malik's back to secure the submission.
Esteban Ribovics defeated veteran Edson Barboza by second-round TKO after maintaining heavy pressure and repeatedly landing punches. Referee Herb Dean stopped the fight at 1:32 of the second round, and Barboza announced his retirement following the defeat, bringing a potential end to one of the most memorable striking careers in UFC history.
UFC 330 ultimately produced a landmark night for Makhachev, who retained his welterweight championship, extended his historic UFC winning streak to 17 fights and surpassed Anderson Silva's previous record. The event also featured another successful title defense for Dern, several impressive finishes and the retirement announcement from Barboza.
