Marvel Studios has officially revealed the first major members of its new X-Men cast, giving fans their first look at the actors who will lead the highly anticipated mutant franchise within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The announcement was made Friday during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California, where Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige appeared alongside director Jake Schreier and several members of the newly assembled cast.
Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey, while Kit Connor has been cast as Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops. Samara Weaving will portray Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette will play Rogue, Christopher Abbott will take on the role of Professor Charles Xavier, and Maya Boyd has been cast as Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm.
The casting of Boyd is one of the biggest developments from the announcement. The 23-year-old actress is best known for her work on Broadway and will make her feature-film debut as one of Marvel's most recognizable mutants.
Boyd previously appeared in the 2023 Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along before taking over the title role in & Juliet. She also performed in August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone alongside Taraji P. Henson and Cedric the Entertainer.
Storm has previously been portrayed by Halle Berry in four X-Men films released between 2000 and 2014, while Alexandra Shipp played a younger version of the character in X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Marvel also delivered another major surprise during the presentation when Adam Driver was revealed as part of the cast. Driver will play Nathaniel Milbury, who is expected to emerge as the film's major villain under the Mr. Sinister identity.
The new X-Men film marks Marvel Studios' first major attempt to introduce the mutant team as an official part of the MCU following years of appearances under 20th Century Fox.
The previous X-Men franchise featured actors including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and James Marsden, while a younger cast led by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Sophie Turner appeared in a series of prequel films.
Marvel has already begun connecting the X-Men mythology to the wider MCU, with several actors from the previous franchise expected to return in Avengers: Doomsday. Characters from the Fox era have also appeared in recent Marvel projects, including Deadpool & Wolverine.
Schreier, who previously directed Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts, is directing the upcoming X-Men movie. Marvel has not yet revealed the full plot or announced the complete cast, with Feige indicating that additional casting news is still expected.
The film is currently scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2028, giving Marvel several years to build its new mutant lineup before the franchise officially returns to the big screen.
With Sink, Connor, Weaving, Navarrette, Abbott, Boyd and Driver now attached to the project, Marvel's new X-Men era is beginning to take shape as the studio prepares to bring one of its most recognizable superhero teams into the next chapter of the MCU.
